Friday 10/08 5:30pm-9:30pm $0 ![]() This course will provide an overview of learning theories relevant to career and technical education that emphasizes the importance of teaching not only technical skills but also higher order thinking, problem solving, and collaborative skills to prepare workers for entry into and advancement in the workplace. Learning styles will be defined and the importance of understanding the differences among learning styles to enhance student learning. Career and technical education instructors will gain knowledge of how to incorporate constructivist/contextual learning theory and accommodate various learning styles when designing their curriculum.

Teaching Methods and Strategies
Saturday 10/09 9:00am-1:00pm $0 ![]() This course will provide faculty with the teaching tools needed to engage students in learning and increase student mastery of subject matter. Six teaching methods will be covered: problem-based learning, project-based learning, work-based learning, direct instruction, cooperative learning, and service learning. Strategies for integrating academic skills will be addressed and how they apply to the adult learner. Emphasis will be placed on how to integrate the disciplines of Math, Science and English Language Arts into career and technical education.

Practical exercises in developing syllabi and SLOs will be presented. Participants will gain knowledge of how to develop course objectives, measureable student learning outcomes, and appropriate assessment methods. Various types of testing, assessment methods and rubrics will be reviewed.
